Garrea cuando se encontraba fondeado en la zona exterior del puerto de Bilbao a la espera de entrar para tomar un cargamento de fertilizantes con destino a Motril. Embarranca en el rompeolas de Punta Lucero y posteriormente se hunde. Los ocho tripulantes fueron rescatados por helicoptero.

While anchored at Bilbao waiting to load a cargo of fertilizers destined for Motril she dragged her anchor in high winds and was driven aground at Punta Lucero breakwater. The vessel sank late in the evening. The crew of eight was safely airlifted.
